While I was experimenting with DPCM, I made some simple DPCM ramps to fade the triangle in/out without the popping associated with Zxx. Though... the pop gets replaced with a little chirp sound.
The two samples are just all 00s and all FFs (looping), which ramp the DCM channel to 0 or full, affecting the triangle's volume.
You may notice a quiet buzz in tri_down.dcm as it loops; this is because of FamiTracker's looping sample length bug, but it won't do this in most NSF players.
Yep; I confirm hearing that buzz in FamiTracker only.
Thanks to that sample set & the instrumentation, the triangle sound a bit like a pipe organ to me (even the chirp sounds a bit like finger nails tapping organ keys). I tried using this & must say that I'm pleased with the way it sounds (even though I'm beating a dead horse with this test theme of mine). :P

Technology: the one thing that's hated & cursed at by all engineers, technologists, scientists & technicians!
I know I haven't really contributed any instruments for a while so here's some DPCM drums, taken straight from the Roland U-110 sound module. Hope you guys enjoy them.
Hmm... Looking through this, I see that, while there are multiple Pianos, none of them are for held notes; rather, they are for shorter notes that make it impossible for me to attempt tracking Moonlight Sonata. I guess I could go with a non-piano instrument, but when I do that, it sounds butchered.
Does anyone have a held piano instrument?

Why do that when I can whine to you guys about it?
Honestly, I thought of that, and just now figured out a way to do that with VRC7 instruments. Literally, like 2 minutes ago.
Anyways, while I was engrossed in my moment of pure thought, I made a VRC7 instrument that sounds EXACTLY like the "Piano" instrument sounds on my old Yamaha synthesizer. Which isn't surprising, seeing as how the "custom instrument" feature worked in a similar manner to the instrument editor. I'll upload the instrument now.
Edit: There's a video about the keyboard here, and the piano sound is (poorly) used at about 1:48. Also, I originally posted that it was the "Electric Piano" sound, when it was the "Piano" sound. I couldn't remembre, the AC/DC adapter broke and I haven't touched it in months.
Edit - REDUX!: Thanks for the video link rainwarrior. Cool stuff. I now feel more inadequate.
3rd EDIT: I edited out a good piano sound, then saved the incorrect instrument, and then when I tried to do it again, it crashed. Time for a bug report.

If you want a good piano, you should try the Color Dreams instruments. The length of the instrument depends on what kind of instrument is played. For example, it's a short piano sound if it's 16th notes, a little bit longer piano if it's 8th notes, and the instrument gets longer the longer the note.
These instruments are ripped from an unlicensed NES game called "Wait and See". The same instruments were used in "Lion King 3: Timon & Pumbaa" which was also unlicensed. I just thought the instruments had a... 'unique' sound to them so I thought I'd upload. The drums sound really good.

I know how music works, sir. Learning how long notes last was the first thing I learned.
I figured that. I meant that it plays a shorter instrument when you play faster notes.
I'm working on a cover, so I ripped (and looped) Bloody Tears with Rainwarrior's tool and started ripping instruments. They're not 100% accurate (I didn't bother with the P command, including vibrato) but they're damn close.
EDIT: Added a .zip with the instruments already ripped for you.
EDIT 2: And the first pattern of my cover-in-progress as a demonstration.
