It's my understanding that the score has always relied completely on people's votes.

entry 16 is a great song, Hally played that song live at Blipfest a few years ago, and the place was jumping around like crazy!
Perhaps you're not hearing the whole song due to settings in your nsf player.

That is a great idea! A listening party on IRC. When will that be?

usually they happen not long after the songs are released. there may be an advance warning on when it will happen, but it may just be spontaneous. not sure. best to just idle in #mod_shrine sometime after September 1st :B but i'll try and remember to post here if i do find out a precise time.

Sorry, I got it now...

It was indeed my NSFplay which automatically plays the next song after 5 seconds of silence.

Yeah, say, Famicompo (not mini) entry 10...

Thanks, Dave.

I hear you. That was somewhat of an upset. But really, the results didn't change anything. AI Bomb is still talked about, listened too, and revered, whereas entry#10 hasn't been as popular. Anyway, this is all about having fun, listening to great music, making the best music you can, and getting exposure. Don't worry too much about the scoring. The winner doesn't win anything.

Also this would be because the votes for entry 10 were very skewed... like 98% of them were from Japan, because it covered a Japanese TV theme. Now for the FC Minis, there are a lot more Americans/Europeans voting and participating, so the votes are a lot less one-sided. It also helps that FC Minis (past the first one) are split between covers and originals, so the covers don't overwhelm the originals due to the inherent popularity of the source materials.

I've always been very careful to reveal wich entry I've made before the voting is over. Even to my friends etc.

I wonder how many that "hire" friends to vote for them. I don't see the point doing this, but still, I think it happens.

Perhaps some sort of community where you have to register before voting would stop some of this... But I don't know, it's maybee a bad idea.

If people are hiring others to vote, then who cares? "gratz u've won a competition and ur prize is...nothing!"

Eventually submitted a cover.

You guys are very likely to be able to guess which mine is, anyway.

I forgot to ask something

Do I upload the NSF(s) with song name, artist etc. or should it be blank? Can't seem to find any logical answer on their page ;o

I think you're supposed to leave it blank.

you should leave it filled, actually. that data is stripped out for the contest, but the original files with that data in are released in the final pack after ranking has taken place.

Yeah apparently this is kind of common with westerners, you'd think he'd have set that timer to his server's time, instead of using the system clock!

Yeah I missed it too, though I'm not sure I would have finished in time anyway because I start stuff at the start of the submission period. Life happens.

I was following the timer as well. If there isn't an amended nsf pack in a day or so, I'll just upload it =(
