I want to know this: if we take real NES hardware, and we "ask" to DPCM to play a sample filled with $AA bytes at slow speed (under 7), would we hear a little high tone (unfiltered output) or we wouldn't be able to hear something (filtered output)?

I'm not sure about that actually, but I imagine it'll be audible if a slow playback speed is used. I can test it on my famicom sometime.
