Honestly I agree with this. It's one thing to push the nsf format to its limits, and quite another to make FT stray from the format.
Phase cancellation of dual instruments isn't a problem at all once you convert to wave...just move one of the instruments forward.
Well, I was just agreeing & elaborating on gyms' point.
As for the original matter, it's highly doubtful that any programmer would want to do complex things to their own programs (especially when it comes to open-source, too).
As plausible as Im_a_Track_Man's suggestion actually is, it doesn't make it any less complex to implement, or anymore practical to have in the eyes of a programmer who needs to worry about other important things (like bugs & adding more practical features). And considering how robust/unique FamiTracker actually is, there's a multitude of ways to bypass certain restrictions (i.e.: take advantage of an existing bug like Mex did, dump multiple audio files like gyms' test MP3s, play two FTM files simultaneously, etc.).
Ultimately, FamiTracker is JSR's creation; I say let him do as he pleases, at his own pace.

thanks guys, this thread has given us all a good laugh at #mod_shrine

[08:32:20] <lunar> ugh i want to fucking kill someone
[08:32:34] <@coda> lunar HAHAH what is that??!?!
[08:32:43] <lunar> another famitracker request
[08:32:47] <lunar> best one yet
[08:32:59] <@\> wut
[08:33:01] <@qualo> i hope that's a mockup screenshot
[08:33:05] <lunar> it is
[08:33:08] <@\> what do they want?
[08:33:16] <@qualo> i dont even understand
[08:33:23] <@coda> no, they want the song to change from FDS to VRC6
[08:33:25] <@qualo> i dont want to understand bye
[08:33:26] <@coda> mid-pattern
[08:33:27] <@\> oh
[08:33:30] <@\> haha
[08:33:31] <@qualo> oh hahaha
[08:33:33] <lunar> "this command can me used if you are covering a song and want to completely break away from the NES and Tracker's standards"
[08:33:40] <@qualo> HAHA
[08:33:44] <chibitech> ahahahahahahahahah
[08:33:46] <chibitech> wtf
[08:34:15] <@coda> the famicom will do like a transformers sequence and suddenly it will have a different chip in it
[08:34:20] <@\> HAHAHA
[08:34:24] <@\> including the sound
[08:34:30] <@\> wa-a-o-o
[08:34:34] <@coda> rather than having both at once, because as you can see it only has one at a time
[08:34:35] <@coda> in the pattern
[08:34:42] <@\> yes
[08:35:13] <stupid> does it have any possibility whatsoever of making sense
anyway i'm pretty sure this request isn't ever going to happen (in this form), since it completely breaks tracker behaviour. amazed that it was debated for six pages, frankly.

The topic swayed quite a bit halfway through and the first few pages were people scoffing along with mod_shrine. We didn't spend six pages flailing around about switching channels mid ftm.
@RushJet1, yea, it occured to me that the 2a03 tri waveform probably wasn't a perfect triangle like the FDS preset, since it has a slight buzz. I'll give this a look/listen when I'm not at work; eager to see which samples are 'misplaced'. Thanks, man.
gyms, the reason the fds triangle sounds wrong is that it's not the same waveform as the NES triangle. I think this one is a lot closer.
You know when you have got it right when you invert the FDS triangle wave and have both playing at the same frequency. Destructive interference and what not creates silence.

Delek, doesn't this have something to do with that? I think this is why they include lowpass filters in emulators. It sounds a bit more analog once the aliasing is filtered out.
@RushJet1, gahh, that makes so much sense, the triangle. I don't know why I didn't recognize it sooner :'\
Yeah!, I listened to the differences in the triangle channel of Gyromite NSF and Gyromite NES!.
It's incredible that the NES triangle sounds much more powerful than the emulated version. I cannot found a NSF player that can correctly emulate that beautiful bassy sound.
