When the program is launched by opening a VGE file, the Help menu doesn't give me the "Show help" option. That option is only there if I launch the program by double-clicking the shortcut (or the EXE itself).
That one was reported, so I have it fixed in WIP version.
That's great, thanks!
I'm guessing a "knows issues" text file somewhere would avoid duplicate bug reports like this.
Quick question: this might be a bit technical, but do you have the faintest idea how I can go about recreating VRC7 patches in VGMMM? I'm having a hard time figuring out what operator algorithm I should use, since the VRC7 has two and the Genesis has four. 1->2->3->4 doesn't seem to do it; I'm not even sure which two operators to use, in fact. :s
This effect starts a PCM sample with number xx, loaded into sample list in the Samples window. You can use the effect on any channel, but the sample always plays on FM6, turning off FM sound on this channel while the sample plays. No effects take effect on a channel while it plays a sample, other than stereo pan. Volume column does not work for samples as well.
I tried that. It won't seem to let me input the Sxx command.
You need to import samples to be used with the SXX effect son!
Also, I made another thing. I'm starting to like this tracker more, but it's still a pain in the ass to mess with the pattern editor.
By the way, I noticed when I added stuff to FM channel 6, the drums would interrupt the Synth playing in that channel. Did that happen on the real hardware?

Yeah, the samples replace FM on channel 6. It's one or the other. If you attempt to play both at the same time, the FM will kick in once the sample has played through.

Ah thanks. I feel like a retard for not knowing more about my childhood console. I know I'm slow, but seriously now, I am disappoint.
there's a few usability grumbles i have, from using it briefly.
1.) highlight multiple notes -> delete key doesn't delete notes. i'm not sure if there is a function already assigned to this (it doesn't appear to do anything), but i found it very counterintuitive.
2.) no sound when you first open a project. famitracker has this "problem" too, though in the case of that all you need to do is hit new instrument button to get a blank instrument. i am sure i'll get my head around this as well but it's a little disconcerting for those unfamiliar with the software to open it.
3.) importing wav doesn't work with most files i try. again, this is mostly my problem since i haven't yet read through the help files, however, perhaps you could include any relevant format information in the error window that pops up (it says "Can't open sample _", but it could hypothetically also say "Files must be xbit xKHz blahblah WAVE", just to feed back a bit of information to the user.)
other than that, very excited about this tracker and it's basically what i've hoped TFM would be from the start. i need to make an earnest attempt at writing a test song with it soon.
lol Dalek's gonna be mad since he didn't post this
..Give me one reason why I would have posted this when a) It's not my software and b) Shiru's a member of the forums.
Regardless, I've had some fun with this tool. Small feature I'd add is swapping the FM6 channels and DAC channels - they can't play at the same time, as a technical llimitation of the YM2612. (That is, an option in the tracker -- an option to have either FM6 or the DAC channel. This is a permanent decision in an SMPS song, as its set via flag in the header if I remember)
One small niggle--the noise channel. It has much less tones than I remember with the SMPS engine - is it just me or is this really all the thing can do?
EDIT: Another thing I'd like is pitch modification for samples. If I wanted to use the Sonic 2 DAC samples that I've converted to wav (from the disassembly), they won't have the right pitch unless I modified the sample.
EDIT2: Oh, lastly, the SMPS instrument import isn't working accurately -- converting something like the bass instrument from Emerald Hill Zone doesn't sound correct.
Imo the tracker is great, but it lacks simplicity.
I get more opinions that the best feature of the tracker is the simplicity. Some people just don't like the interface by a reason, because they get used to another one. It is impossible to make something that everyone can like.

Some things like selecting octave, pattern etc could have a shortcut key if it doesn't already.
They have.
Should say, It is highly demotivating situation - getting many requests for a feature, like redefinable keys for almost everything, spend a lot of time implementing it, and years after this get request like this. When I've spent a lot of time implementing a feature that is useless for me, I'd expect someone spend a minute to check if the feature is there before asking to add it.

Also when you're messing in the pattern editor, it seems really fickle and won't let you put notes down and such until you do so when it wants, so you gotta like stop for a second or it won't register a note.
You can't type really fast, but it very rarely makes any problem. This is consequence of redefinable keys. If it is an actual second on your computer, it is some local problem.

Also, my biggest issue so far is how stupidly awkward it is to add a new pattern in the editor.
You can click on the order list with right mouse button and then 'Insert..'. You can click on the first empty position of the order list with left mouse button and type a pattern number from keyboard. It is VT2-like behaviour.

It would be an extra work for me. I just said that this exact problem is fixed, indicating that the project still moves forward.

With just two operators you can have just 2 alrogitms: 1 is modulator, 2 is carrier, or both are carrier. It is algorithms 4 and 7 for YM2612, just turn off second set of operators (slot TL to 127).

Hopefully you trying to input S00, S01 etc, not literally Sxx?

Delete key is used to delete notes. To delete a block, default key is Ctrl+D. You can redefine these keys as you like.

Already done in WIP version.

The editor allow you to use both DAC and FM6 in the same song, DAC just interrupts FM sound.

It can generate white and periodic noise of low (just three pitches) and high (1024 pitches) resolution. It is controlled by effects, and explained at the bottom Instruments editor section.

Only if it would be volume-like, i.e. pitch does not changes dynamically.

I can't fix the problem if you don't provide instruments files that cause the problem.

Okay, I've attached the instrument I was talking about earlier. Nineko's 2612 Instrument Editor previews it fine as well as importing it correctly, but VGM Music Maker and TFM aren't.
