I love arps. That was pretty cool, although I wish it had a stronger tonal center. It kind of drifts all over the place. I'd guess that it was in D Dorian but then you end with a C major triad which feels pretty jarring in that context.
I modified my own loop a little. Mainly slowed it down a bit as I realized that the tempo was just too fast for the feeling I wanted. It also has more swing now as a result of going from alternating F05, F03 to F06, F03. And it has a less self denigrating name.

Thing is, I mildly modified an *actual* clave-click instrument patch (which, honestly, wasn't very good at the time :P) from one of my old FTM's, but forgot to change the name to something more appropriate when it was "done" =P
Ok, another adjustment. I realized that a 2:1 swing was too much, so I created a more relaxed 11:7 ratio by changing:

so the effective BPM is still the same.

edit: I just realized the power of Gxx! Ever since I created this track, I noticed that the timing of the reverb channel was pretty off compared to the main channel. I thought this was just an unfortunate consequence of doing the Fxx swing thing and that I'd just have to live with it. At least it wasn't that noticeable by virtue of being really quiet, but it still bugged me. Then I realized, holy shit, I can just use Gxx (which I'd never used before) to delay the notes that are playing too early compared with the rest and voila! The reverb actually sounds like reverb now! It's so much better. FamiTracker continues to surprise me.
For what it's worth Hyena, I thought that was a pretty neat little track. Good amount of variation on the core idea. I think the best part is when it gets really classical with all the 16th notes. The instruments could use some work though. They're really plain and harsh with the way they just start and stop instantly.
There's not a "Post your WIPs" thread is there? I've made some progress on expanding upon my swingy thing but this thread doesn't really seem appropriate for those kind of updates. However, I don't want to make a thread for the track until it's "done", or at least "a song". Oh well, here goes:
Addressed the bass a bunch. Made it much more rhythmic, changed some notes and added a bass solo part after the sax part. I don't think this exact structure will carry over to the finished version, but the bass is just something I wanted to work on so it's kind of tacked on right now. Also gave the percussion some much needed feel with volume column. I'll probably do the same to the sax. I'm also going to add variation to the sax phrases to keep it interesting and there will probably be a sax solo at some point.
edit: fixed some discrepancies in the sax reverb channel and resolved the sax phrase on the fourth bar.
So bascially I completely screwed up on where to put the original post and now after being advised to put it here I have done so. This is my attempt at making a SID lead with N163, go nuts.
I should really think about things before I post them. -_-

When i took this song and made an edit. i do not mean to deface your music, it sounds great. On the contrary though most might think i made it worse. i like all of the comp edits.
Haha yeah, We thought it was pretty cool when other people tried their hands at putting a lead with comp. We would upload it somewhere to see how many different kinds of solos people would make, but it will never be seen if We do.
