Yes, a lot of NES engines use a combined volume/duty macro, so it's easy to slip envelope writes along with it since they're in the same register. You need to watch out for the length counter, though. It will cut off your envelope early if it isn't long enough. (Though you need to write $4003 as the note stars to trigger the envelope to begin with, so there is an opportunity there to set it long.)

Bump.

I was listening to the FCM10 entries and found that 0.53 is not quite happy with some of the 5B NSFs. Original #9 and Original #71 constantly crash the player and it seems this happens when 5B plays notes in the extreme frequencies.

It happens whenever the 5B plays noise or uses the Envelope generator. I, too hope this is fixed soon.

Also, why are the 5B squares not colored some shade of purple, and are instead that shade of pink indicative of a completely "undefined" (i.e. completely different to anything, so it can't pick a color) wave?

The best solution is to open another 5B entry (I like Gimmick) and disable the 5B:E visualization first, then load those two entries. Noise doesn't hurt it. Luckily disabling that isn't quite tied to muting the Envelope channel.

Hey Patashu, can I make a request? Please alter the NSFPLAY_VERSION and NSFPLAY_TITLE in xgm\version.h, add "Synthesia" to it or something. This will help people sort out different version issues more easily, and prevent any potential conflicts between DLLs (the version is now checked, but it won't help if your DLL has the same version name!).

Would be nice if this was stickied somewhere, or thrown into the famitracker download in a zip. I looked around for ages for this thing!

Or maybe it is and i'm just not very observant.

This project isn't related to Famitracker in any way, so it would make no sense to bundle it with the tracker. Including a link to NSFPlay itself on the Links page would be a reasonable thing to do, though.

As for stickying the thread, I don't think it's a major enough thread to warrant stickying (and even if I did, I couldn't sticky it myself anyway - jsr would have to do it).

Does anyone know if Patashu is still active? I haven't seen him in a while. I wonder if he discontinued this or if he has a newer version that hasn't been released yet?

He might since the OP download link is no longer working. I know he's waiting for FT to have 5B support before working on a few 5B bugs

He's still active in gaming communities though

An update for the drum-not-displaying error I had, it seems to only do it with the E 0 hardware decay. The rest show up. Not sure what's up with that.
