That depends on whose instruments you are going to use. I guarantee that every instrument found in the instruments thread is free for anyone to use, though.

You can always use mine (if I had lots of instruments in my modules, actually) so if you find one of those which contains something that draws your attention, then you can use it.

Zamual made a great instrument pack for N163 a while ago. The one in this post was fixed by jsr but it contains the instruments Zamual made for this expansion chip. Hope you find that useful.

That's good. I don't have to worry about copyright...

Yay! Sharing is Caring! :D

WHOOOAAH!!! THIS INSTRUMENTS SOUND LIKS IT COULD RIVAL SNES SOUNDS! But it's NES...

(Is there a working Sangokushi 2 - Haou no Tairiku (N106) NSF here? That's the last one I need, but it does not work with FECUX nor NSFPlay. )

I found this:

http://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=115&start=1425#p107008

There's a download link provided by rainwarrior in that post, which contains the fixed NSF for Sangokushi 2 and it works with many NSF players, including NSFPlay. Hope this helps.

As I see this site's recent reply to all, I barely see any new replies in like weeks. o.o;; Or is it just me...

Uhh, if I wanted to try out the contest, is there a registration for NFS , as in, "Where the muffin cakes do I put my music (NSF. -u-) in? I'll bet cookies it would be in Show Off Your Work, as I barely seen any music from the contest in there.

The FCM Volume something? :I

If you mean the Demo Compo contest (the one hosted in this site), then you'd have to wait until the next one.
If you mean FamiCompo Mini (that big contest with covers and original NSFs), then bad luck, it's oficially over, though I think I've seen some rumors that another one might have place if someone takes over.

Both contests receive anonymous submissions, you must not post them to the public if you want to participate in them (most likely the case of Demo Compo, since I've seen people submitting old stuff to FamiCompo Mini, including me).

If you didn't mean any of these two, then I didn't understand your post.

As Dr_Mustache pointed out, Famicompo is "officially" discontinued, although I have no doubt somebody else will keep the tradition of an annual worldwide NSF competition alive, whether it be under the name Famicompo, or just as a spiritual successor.

DemoCompo is my pet competition project, and used to happen somewhat regularly. Right now it is on indefinite hiatus though, since I have not had the time to host a contest since the last one. Also, jsr hasn't even updated the current Famitracker pack with the latest N163 tunes, so even if I did host a contest, who knows when the entrants might get their "prize" (top 3 entries become offical demos).

If you really want to participate in some form of chiptune-format competition (NSF or otherwise), you may want to check out Battle of the Bits. They have one-hour contests (OHCs) on a regular basis - a lot of them NSF or NSF+ - and even host occasional major battles.

I have a question: Battle of the Bits only allows original music in its competitions?

Yes, purely for licencing reasons: any piece of work submitted to BotB is automatically licenced under the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 3.0 licence which, to my knowledge, does not permit taking another person's work and modifying it (which is what a cover essentially is).

(Long time no tawkies. -w- )

Two questions:

1: So, FamiTracker CAN be used for anything, even commercial product? I kind of feel it's true, since in RetroCity Rampage DX, which requires money to play, you can actually hear music maded from Famitracker. But...does it also works on N163, VRC7, and so on?

2: Why do some music sound louder of N163 than Original-A04 than the one originated on Famitracker?

Yup, it's true, even for expansions.

What do you mean? You should rephrase that.
