They don't use 256-sample waves. If you use 256 samples some of the data will be the channel registers. None of the 9 games do this. The do use waves longer than length 32, which was previously thought to be the limit.
It looks like the longest Rolling Thunder or Final Lap uses is 64.
You can't set all 256 samples to usable data, but you can still use a wavelength of 256. It will have some buzz/random stuff on the end that is the channel registers (though most N163 emulators won't emulate this).
Whoa, I heard N163 is able to do 256 wave samples per wave instead of 32 wave samples! Kind of reminds me of FDS expansion, except more freedom to set the samples.
But why is it limited to 32 wave samples? Is it because of wave position 128 is the limit?
It is limited to 32 steps because how multiple waves/instrument is implemented, I didn't know the chip supported more when I did that.
256 steps is possible but useless since it overlaps the channel registers. 128 steps is the limit if it should remain compatible with any amount of channels.
256 steps with one channel = could make FDS obsolete...unless FDS has more potential when it comes to game-creating...
I'm okay with 2 channels with 128 steps or 1 channel with full step. The music can still be good with 2 square, 1 tri., noise, DPCM and 1 over-power channel. Right? (Thinking.)
As I said 256 steps is unusable even with only one channel enabled, it's supported by the hardware but practically useless. And don't expect support for longer waves to be added anytime soon, N163 is not prioritized.
And for you information, both types of hardware is obsolete since like 20 years ago, there's no point comparing them against each other. If you're not satisfied with what the hardware can do then perhaps you should try a sample based tracker or a modern DAW.

+1. I have no clue why people demand more features that are out of the Famicom's scope to be added to Famitracker. It's for the Famicom, people. Not for the blasted sample-based do-whatever-because-the-limit-is-the-sky world!

My reason of why I wanted (not demand; I'm satisfied with the way it is now.) more features in Famitracker... is pretty rediculous or off-topic reason..
