Is there a reason there are two namco categories? If you want to have two compos then that's fine with me, but I think including songs from one compo would be enough as demos.
The things you can do with 1-4 channels and the things you can do with all 8 differ significantly enough to warrant two separate sets of demos, in my opinion.

jsr refers to N163 compos, right? In that case, yes, the demo folder would get a little flooded by N163, but isn't it the same case of VRC6, which has 5 modules in it? I agree with having two separate categories though, since their use is very different.
VortexTrackerII has many more demos than Famitracker ever will, and they're not all that great or helpful. At the end of this contest series, we will have in the neighbourhood of 50 demos (VTII has 93), every single one of which we can be certain has been deemed by seasoned Famitracker users to be both helpful and pleasant to listen to. I'm not worried about "flooding the demo folder", because I can confident that everything that ends up inside that folder is worthy of being there. I do hope jsr trusts my judgement in this.
About the separate N163 categories, I've already stated my reasoning: the techniques required to make the best use of the chip possible vary wildly depending on whether you use a low channel count (1-4) or a high one (5-8). The former requires more clever methods since there's less polyphony at your disposal. The latter also requires a bit of clever thinking in order to use up to eight extra channels without making it seem like there's too much going on at once.
I figure since the tracker gives users the possibility to select between 1 and 8 channels, it should probably offer suitable examples on how to use the chip effectively under all kinds of conditions.
About the VRC6, the reason there's five demos instead of three is because DC6 was an enormous success, an impressively large amount of entries were very very good, and it seemed appropriate to me to allow a slightly broader sample of the whole entry pack to become demo material.
I noticed a lot later that there were two extra modules in the folder that I didn't listen before for VRC6. Being it the easiest expansion to use along with MMC5, and the wide possibilities it offers may have influenced the high quality of the entries. Also, I would like to add that the demos in DefleMask are not so good, but there are some better and worthy ones, like some in the Sega Genesis folder(the Sonic ones mostly). I guess FamiTracker is going to be a lot more interesting if the demos are good, since not only it shows what the tracker can do, but it can also be useful to learn some techniques, have some little time to listen to the good music once in a while, and things like that.
If it's appropiate, let me change my order of preferences for the next contest:
I'll edit my previous post to put them in there before the voting ends.
By the way, did you receive my new PM jrlepage?
EDIT: There's a major reason I wouldn't go for FDS though. It's the bug I discovered in which it plays a 50% pulse wave instead of the one defined in the first instrument used.
It's kind of hard to say where my thoughts are with what I'd personally want to see and try. 2A03 is pretty obvious, but N163 5-8 is also pretty wanted. I'd still want to get myself reintroduced to the program before I even consider joining...that and find time to reintroduce myself after a long time of being away. I really wanna try out on VRC6 Originals myself, but I honestly don't know how I'd make one because...remember: I'm not the best with originals and have mostly just done covers/remixes. I'd say this: As long as I don't have to worry about VRC7, the only expansion I haven't worked with yet (I plan on learning at some point in time), I'd be cool with the challenge once I find time...and a PC...

Try to practice with everything. VRC7 is hard, but if you get how to use it right, the results can be great. I hope you can get in the contest. It will be more fun if there are people better than me in there, so that will make me struggle to end up in the top 3 instead of just doing something and boom I won my song is demo. I want to go for N163 1-4, but 5-8 channels will likely strip me out of the contest, since I'm less channels and more action.
Once again, I hope you find time to participate. I now realize that I might have less time than I thought, since classes start next month and they will consume an enormous portion of my life. But since I am fast, I don't know if that will be much of a problem.
