As IaTM said, why we all love the sound of those chips if some of us might never had one of those systems?

I had one(pirate style, unfortunately), but the reason can be simple:

It is too cool. Nothing gives you high quality sounds with such simplicity as pulse waves.

Also, they are fun to listen to.
