I really don't know...being someone without years of musical background and stuck with only Famitracker (while others program their own nsfs or use ppmck) and my very game-esque composing style, I'd be severely handicapped anyway, and I really don't want to lose my motivation again like last time...
You will not win if you do not try. By entering a serious effort, you will probably do pretty well to begin with, since there are usually a handful of troll entries that sink to the bottom of the covers section anyway. Alternately, you could submit one of those troll entries that tends to make everyone laugh. (Who knows, you may be able to repeat Doggtales' success!)
For me, it's a question of effort, but I managed to make something for fcm9 while also being way out of practice, so I'll probably manage to scrape something together. Plus, I've wanted to dive back into Famitracker recently anyway.
I think I'll try anyway, but I'm not so sure. For now I have no ideas and this thing will start next week. Also, since it's the last chance I will try to get something ready for this contest. I don't expect anything for now but I'll do my best as always.
QUESTION: For FamiCompo 8 and 9 there are separate files for entries, like FamiCompo mini vol.8 Exhibition. What's the difference between this one and FamiCompo mini vol.8 for instance?
I've never entered one of these before, so just to clarify, I have until July 10th to get something done? And my NSFs can contain a maximum 5 songs each, whether cover or original? Thanks in advance.
Specific rules for this compo haven't been posted yet (they'll post in a few days, if not when entries open), but the way the past couple have worked is this:
You can submit one NSF file for covers, and one for originals. They may have up to five tracks each.
And mind you, the times for this are in JST (Japan time), so it's prudent to submit your entries on July 9th if you don't want to worry about when July 10th ends in Japan. There's always a rush in the last few hours to get things uploaded.
1: NSF only.
2: Up to 10 Originals and up to 10 Covers. A total of 20 maximum entries.
3: Multiple tracks are not allowed. (I assume this means only one track per NSF is allowed.)
4: Any sound expansion may be used.
I assume that's "Up to 10 Originals or Covers", rather? There is a difference.
EDIT: Just took a look at the rules. Apparently that's "up to 10 covers" and "up to 10 originals", for a grand total of 20 entries per entrant. Wow, K-> sure is going for the big finish here!
That's nice. If I find some spare time I may do something as huge as my Demo Compo entry (but not a medley this time). I just hope college doesn't rape me with homework and tests and stuff.
I was right now thinking of something, and since this one will last longer than the last Demo Compo I might as well cover ten songs. No originals though.
