I started immediately with expansion chips, particularly the VRC6, and now I handle the program and music making pretty well, but the only drawback this might hold is that doing simpler things, in terms of available channels to work with, could be a difficult task. For me it is, but I would just advice you to go and try the chips that suit your needs, though I would recommend starting off with the MMC5 since it's the simplest one to work with. Still, decide it yourself, you might feel more comfortable working with more channels and having more possibilities rather than just having few channels that can't satisfy your needs, or viceversa.
To everyone else: Whatever works for whomever just works for them. Different people have different ways to do things, and nobody rightfully has the right to decide for them. Freedom comes at a cost, but all you have to do is decide for yourself what you want to do.

Basically, all we can do is recommend to him what we recommend. I've made my recommendation & so have you, but it's ultimately up to him to decide for himself.

yes, thank you, for pointing out that other people could dictate how other people should progress even though that's totally none of their business and people can progress in whatever way they want to progress

[I think that thread was one of the best to laugh for a while]
Now seriously, I don't get why you guys felt that people here are forcing the thread creator to do what they are suggesting, because, as I just wrote, those are just suggestions. The thread itself got derailed by TechEmporium but I don't think that giving someone a nice suggestion should be actually something that creates a pointless discussion about how someone should use the program. I thought his post had a very nice intention, because giving a beginner a tip about where he could start to make things could actually be very useful for that person.
Dude, I would have been very thankful if people would have given me suggestions on where to start when I had just discovered the program. I learned from people's works but I never had any direct tips on how to do things.
Since those are just suggestions, the person who created this thread has the ability to choose whether to follow them or not. Starting simple might be the best, but there are others who will do better if they are given more stuff to work with, hence his multi-expansion module request.
yes, thank you, for pointing out that other people could dictate how other people should...
And thank you for getting trolled by something that wasn't meant to be a troll post. By the way, 4chan's the other way.
um?
what are you talking about. the thread could have very well ended fine with the OP getting only the information he wanted. you poke your head in and say that he shouldn't dive in with multi expansions. i think that's bullshit. let someone do whatever the hell they want to do - there is no one true correct way of using a program like famitracker.
but w/e, if you want to insist that i'm being trolled, fine, but do not compare me to that cesspit of the internet.
i do wish when i started using ft multiexpansions were accessible, but now that i'm used to vrc6 and just having the 2a03 alone as well i don't really need that many channels or a wide timbre of sounds. the text import function is neat and all but when am i going to want to use all the expansions at once, really
Since you insist on going like the typical 4channer...
>Implying I commanded OP to do anything
>Implying I have the power to force people remotely to do my bidding
Jokes aside, even though I agree with most of Mr_Master's post (& thanks for that, by the way,) I haven't derailed anything by suggesting simplicity in a help thread, nor have I commanded elevatorfan7072 to stick with using strict 2A03 (as Thom & Raijin misinterpreted, resulting in DalekSam's jimmies getting rustled); I suggested that he get used to the UI first by using the tracker as it was originally intended to be used (without such things as text import hacks for multiple expansions or doing anything beyond the norm) & Fezuke simply didn't agree with that idea.
And since the internet is what it is, the moment someone disagrees with something, all the immature people start swarming in to drag out a pointless discussion.
In any case, elevatorfan7072 did what he wanted to do; good for him. And if you insist on dragging this further:

Ok enough... Do you really not have anything better to do?
