I'd like to ask if anyone knows what year were the different nes audio expansion ics developped, specially vrc7. I know Lagrange Point was released in 1991, but don't know really when it was ready to rock at Konami HQs I've been googling for a while, but couldn't find any relevant information.
Seems likely it was in a finished prototype in 1990 or 1991, given that Lagrange Point was the only game that used it. Other FM synthesis chips existed before that though.
I checked the NES cart database and the date code for VRC7 indicates it was made in the year 1990 (week 50), so I think it's safe to assume it was first made some time earlier that year, as it's just a modified variant of the YM2413.
