This is just something that I wanted to show since there are a lot of people out there who are not aware of this. And I personally think that people should know about this.

(Taken from Zamual's FF thread)
The problem with Furrykef's tool is that if you directly copy-paste the waveforms to Famitracker, without slightly changing them, it will make the wave output even more slated and uglier than the original waveform. This is the reason why for example the 2A03 Triangle looks like a shark fin rather than a perfect shape of a triangle.
Furrykef's tool will make the job a lot easier, but it will not give you a perfect copy of an instrument. If you already knew about this, then you can ignore this post, but I still wanted to point this out since there are a lot of people out there who are not aware of this.

Here's at least some proof, just in case want to see what I'm talking about.

Note that my 2A03 Triangle isn't perfect, but it certainly is better than the waveform that Furrykef's tool gave me.

Furrykef's Audacity tool will maybe make instruments a lot faster and easier, but you should be aware of what the tool will give you. With some small changes, it might give you the instrument you are looking for.

Since you're downsampling from 200 to 64 samples, and reduce the bit depth from 16 to 6 (a factor of 1024), a lot of data is lost in the process.

Furrykef's audacity tool seems to use Audacity's built-in resampler, which is designed to minimize aliasing caused by all this downsampling (which is what you'd want 99.9% of the time).

It does make simple waveforms such as the NES triangle, square and saw waves sound muddy, but you don't need to use it for that. It's ideal for waveforms that resemble "real" instruments (strings, woodwinds, pads, etc). It's the same reason why it's now famous for accurate reproduction of string sounds! :P

Well, won't every waveform get butchered no matter what waveform we're talking about? I gotta test this tool on Lavender Town and see how many correct values it will give.

Of course they're going to get butchered - what else would you expect from dramatic downsampling?

Put the waveforms in the sameplerate you want before using the tool. That will let you use whatever resampling method you like for it.

Huh, nobody told me about this thread. Or the other thread, for that matter.

It does, yes. Resampling tends to do weird things to "pure" waveforms like triangle and square waves, and such a low sampling rate probably exaggerates the effect.

It is? Have people actually been using it? Nobody tells me these things...

Well, yeah. Look at Zamual's instrument pack.

Let this thread sink to the bottom of the ocean, it was stupid of me to bring this up.
