but yeah, DefleMask's UI and doubtful export don't make it work that well in general (does Defle even have NES?) - can't say I've tried Muse, but from what I hear it's designed to be homebrew-friendly, so give that a whirl if you need PCM in your projects.

Any advice on how to make intelligible, hiss and distorsion free DPCM samples? I know a sample that uses lots of highs frequencies becomes all hissy once converted to DPCM, but that's about it.
Try RJDMC, a program I wrote a couple years ago to edit wav/dmc files. Gives you a bit more control than the FT importer at least.
