Speaking of the Zxx command, I actually rather like using it for giving the DPCM an extra kick, especially when the sample can be often overshadowed by the other instruments. That's probably not how it's supposed to be used, though :P

But back on topic, do you have any personal tips for anyone planning on composing using NES hardware or Famitracker? I've made my own music for games I make myself, but a friend of mine recently has been thinking of making one and asking me to do the music. Do you have any tips?

Not really, I'm afraid! I could use some tips too :D
I didn't follow any fancy technique back in the days, I just did what I thought it sounded nice on the chips, and learned from what I listened in other games. Trying to achieve new sounds was always very rewarding!
