Alexander283: Yeah, the input and output are on none, and no options have been selected. I'm not too sure what I can do to see if that is affecting it though.

And now we're making some progress -- that feels like a pretty important detail to note. And this occurs regardless of what method (menu, toolbar, keyboard shortcut) you use to issue the Play command, right? (Speaking of which, I'm guessing that it doesn't matter which Play command you use -- e.g. F5 / F6 / F7 -- FT just doesn't start playing it.)

Stratelier: None of the buttons are making it play, from the enter key, to any of the f keys, to the play button itself. The play button under tracker on the toolbar doesn't work either, and I think that's all the ways to play it.

Also, not sure if it's relevent, but you can still insert notes into the pattern. You just won't hear them being inserted, no matter the instrument or volume.

More importantly, what is your OS?
Like, WinXP, 2000, Vista, 7/8, Linux (Wine) etc.

I don't know if that still is a bug, but is NsfPlay in the same directory as FamiTracker? I know there once was a bug that Famitracker would have problems if it was contained in the same folder as NsfPlay.

I have a notebook running Windows 8.1 (64-bit) and FamiTracker plays just fine, so OS probably isn't a (big) factor here.

Mariomayhem97: Did you try FamiTracker in a VM with other Windows versions? If it IS Windows 8 then I am not really surprised then.

Alexander283: I'm not quite sure what that is. Is that needed to use Famitracker, or is it another program that can correspondedly help while making songs on it?

8bitZtuner: Again, not sure how to change that. If you could explain how, then I'll try it and see if that's the problem.

Edit: Okay, I am really confused now. I went back to try to open it on windows vista and 7 and stuff like that, and it still doesn't play, but when I insert notes, it makes the noise like it actually is supposed to, only it sounds like an ACTUAL piano, not any 8 bit instrument. The instrument's duty or noise doesn't change the sound, it's still a piano. Maybe that can be a clue or something, but that just confused me even more.

NSFPlay is a program that plays NSF files (i.e. NES ROMs that only contain music, which Famitracker can export). There was a bug with previous versions of Famitracker that caused it to crash if both programs were located inside the same folder. It is in no way necessary for Famitracker to function normally.

Your issue sounds like it's tied to MIDI Out being enabled. In the main program, open the config panel, go in the MIDI tab and make sure "Output Device" is set to <none>.

Please stop scaremongering with OSes - if this was an OS issue it'd be a much more obvious problem. I have never had such an issue on Windows 8 or 8.1.

As for this, if it's making a piano, then yes, you need to check your audio settings and specifically MIDI Out. That being said, I do recall FamiTracker playing internal audio as well when I set it to do so, so there might still be an issue here (that results in no audio).

Are you sure you set your buffer time correctly? FamiTracker will refuse to play if it's set incorrectly if I recall - I have mine set to around 60-80ms.

If famitracker doesn't start moving when pressing play then it means that audio playback isn't working. But then you also should get a message telling this.

It could be an incompatiblitiy with your hardware or conflicts with other software. What type of audio hardware do you use?

jrlepage: That solved the piano noise, thanks. It still refuses to play though.

Dalek Sam: My audio is currently set to 71ms, still doesn't play the phrase or anything.

jsr: I'm a little confused with the question. If you're asking me my options for the sound device I am able to choose from, then that would be the primary sound driver, and Speakers/HP (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC). I'm not sure if that's what you wanted. Also, I am not getting any message about the audio playback not working, or anything at all about an error.

One more thing, I remember the problem occurring after I downloaded Open Broadcaster Software.

Do you mean that FT was operating just fine before that? Seems like a fairly important thing to know.

Ok, then it seems to be a conflict with that software. Is there any way to disable it, to see if that solves the issue?
