Sorry for the vague explanation, I was a little frustrated at the time I asked this question. As for the program, I am deleting it from my computer temporarily and will wait a few hours to check if it made any difference. A progress update will be posted later. I don't want to say thanks too early, but thanks to everyone so far that helped me out.

No worries. In the meanwhile, here's something to pass the time:

(spoiler: this is basically what we've been doing the whole time)

So, the program is gone from my computer, and the problems were not resolved. We can check that software off the list of possible problems for Famitracker.

I'm sorry but I have no idea then, it could be a driver issue, or an auxiliary program that came with that software or anything else.

Yeah, the possibilities at this point are rather ... nebulous. If it truly was caused by installing some other app after FT, it's possible the uninstall wasn't complete (maybe some system registry setting isn't properly reverted), but that's just conjecture and can't exactly be verified.

Unless you have the ability to run something like a debug build and capture detailed info as it happens, we're in the dark. Not good

Okay, I have one more lead. I found that I unsuccessfully uninstalled the program, and it is now officially gone to my system. When I was going through programs to uninstall from my system, I noticed that I couldn't find Famitracker there, even though I have the symbol on my desktop now. If that means that Famitracker isn't even installed somehow, then that might mean something.

Famitracker doesn't use an installer, so it not being listed as "uninstallable" in Add/Remove Programs or the Start Menu or wherever you're looking is normal.

That said, you state that you have FT's icon on your desktop. Is that FamiTracker.exe, or a shortcut to it?

It does make a difference. Not a big one (FamiTracker is mostly self-contained in the .exe file), but your unable-to-load-help might be caused by having the actual file in your desktop directory instead of unzipping FT to its own directory.

Pretty much. In fact, the help file .chm needs to be in the same folder (the Windows desktop is also technically a folder) as Famitracker.exe in order for Famitracker.exe to launch help. I suspect mariomayhem has placed the .exe on the desktop without the .chm to accompany it.

Okay, I did not in fact put the .chm on the desktop. The help button works fine now. That being said, the problem that Famitracker doesn't play still exists. Would it be helpful for me to take a video of how exactly the program isn't working?

Sure. Might not end up revealing anything, but worth a try?

Anything is 'worth a try' at this point, really....

So, I couldn't get my program to not freeze every time I try to record famitracker, so the video can't be made. I've decided to just assume that my computer's the reason for this, not the program, because it's slow and nothing seems to want to work on it. Thanks to everyone who tried to help me, but until I can either fix this computer or get a new one, I won't be able to use this program.
