Seriously, I wonder if you have used just the FDS instrument and the Triangle/Noise/Samples, which is what it sounds like to me. This is fine, though, but if you are going to use that lead, see if there's a way to spruce it up a bit (providing you aren't already modulating the sound).
There is a delay for the FDS' FM function. You can hardwire it into your instrument. I found it kind of handy myself when I discovered it and how it works.
